SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 25
(By Senators Wooton, Bailey, Scott, Plymale, Walker,
Kimble, Buckalew, Sprouse, Craigo and Dittmar)
Congratulating the West Virginia Breakers girls' basketball team
for winning the Youth Basketball of America national
championship.
Whereas, The Youth Basketball of America is a national amateur
youth basketball program with teams from the United States, Puerto
Rico, Mexico and other nations around the world; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Breakers girls' basketball team
participated in and won the girls' eleven-and-under Youth
Basketball of America national championship in Winter Haven,
Florida, on July 19, 1997; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Breakers is the first Youth
Basketball of America amateur national championship basketball team
and only the second West Virginia national youth amateur basketball
championship team; and
Whereas, The champion West Virginia Breakers is comprised of
twelve girls from Cabell, Jackson, Kanawha and Raleigh counties;
and
Whereas, The outstanding leadership under head coach Jim
Justice, along with the outstanding sportsmanship of each team player, including Tara D. Hammond of Cross Lanes; Danya S. Hammond
of Huntington; Alexis Hornbuckle of Dunbar; Jillean L. Justice of
Beckley; Christina R. Kessel of Charleston; Andrea E. Lewis of
Sissonville; Samantha Nester of Huntington; Samantha J. Sloan of
Clendenin; Alison M. Spiker of Ripley; Kathy A. Talley of Beckley;
Ashlee D. Teel of Charleston; and Megan E. Withrow of Cross Lanes,
helped bring this national championship to West Virginia;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby congratulates the West Virginia
Breakers girls' basketball team for winning the eleven- and- under
Youth Basketball of America national championship in Winter Haven,
Florida, on July 19, 1997; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the coach and members of the West
Virginia Breakers girls' basketball tTeam.
